PARKING AT THE UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON - DOWNTOWN
UH-Downtown has ample parking for visitors.
Visitors to campus may park in the Visitors Garage, adjacent to the Academic Building. The entrance is located off Girard street. Visitors must use a token to exit, available for $5 from the Parking Office in room 354-North, or the token machine in the elevator lobby nearest the Visitors Garage.
In addition, a number of privately-operated parking lots are located within walking distance.

UHD's dynamic campus is located at One Main Street in downtown Houston, easily accessed from all major freeways.
For a closer view of UHD's campus in relationship to the streets of downtown Houston, including parking lots and vehicle entrances, check the UHD Location Map (below). The Parking Office in room 354-North is responsible for UHD Parking permits and tokens.
METRO operates a light rail line that stops on Main Street in front of UHD's campus. A number of bus routes also serve UHD's campus. METRO Bus Passes and Schedules are available, along with tokens, at the Information Center, located on the third floor of the One Main Building.
Freeway Access
UHD's dynamic campus is easily accessed from all major freeways. Use the following directions to arrive at the area immediately surrounding campus, then consult the map to find Student and Visitors Parking areas.
- Coming from the east on I-10 (East Freeway), take the Downtown/San Jacinto exit, and follow the access road to
Main Street.
- Coming from the west on I-10 (Katy Freeway), take the Downtown/Smith Street exit, turn left on Preston (the first legal left turn), then turn left on Travis Street.
- Coming from the north on US-59 (Eastex Freeway), exit to I-10 West/San Antonio and stay in the far right lane. This will be the lane for the Downtown/San Jacinto exit. Follow the access road to Main Street.
- Coming from the south on US-59 (Southwest Freeway), exit to I-10 West/San Antonio and stay in the far right lane. This will be the lane for the Downtown/San Jacinto exit. Follow the access road to Main Street.
- Coming from the north on I-45 (North Freeway), take the I-10 East/Downtown/Milam Street exit and stay in the left lane, then turn left onto Commerce, which intersects with both Travis and Main Streets.
- Coming from the south on I-45 (Gulf Freeway), exit on Houston Ave./Memorial, turn right to reach Rusk, follow Rusk to Travis and turn left.
Coming from either Memorial Drive or Allen Parkway, follow either street into downtown Houston, then turn left on Travis or Main Streets.
TRANSPORTATION FROM DOWNTOWN HOUSTON TO THE UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON - DOWNTOWN

The City of Houston has a flat rate of $6 for taxi rides that originate and end within the Central Business District, which is the downtown Houston area bounded by I-45, I-10 and US 59. Up to four passengers can share a cab ride - and the cost of the $6 fare! For more information, please see

The City of Houston regulated taxi meter rate is $2.50 for the first 2/11 mile, and $0.17 for each additional 1/11 mile ($4 for the first mile and $1.87 for every mile thereafter). People 60 and older receive a 10% discount on fares. Waiting is calculated on the taxi meter at $0.33 per minute ($20.00 Per Hour). There is an additional $1 surcharge on all trips which commence between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
Please note: Drivers are independent contractors. They are not employed by a cab company; they work for themselves. Tips are at the discretion of the customer.
Special note about Houston airport taxi service: trips to and from Houston airports are determined by zone rates, in accordance with Houston City Ordinance. Passengers are charged the flat zone rate or the meter rate, whichever is less.

Taxis
Houston has more than 2,200 taxis in its fleet.
The number of downtown taxi stands have increased. These taxi stands are designated areas where cabs can "stand" and wait for a fare. Additionally, there are at least 30 "hailing cab" icons on various downtown streets, which mark that particular site as a three-minute zone where taxis can briefly stop to pick up and drop off passengers.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
Houston has a light rail and bus system called METRO.
METRORail offers convenient accessible service within the heart of the city between downtown Houston and Reliant Park, including the Museum District and Texas Medical Center.
